WATERTOWN, Wis. -- The Sabercats had an easier night tonight, as they swept by the Silver Lake College Lakers in a quick 3-set excursion. In a precise full-squad effort, the Sabercats registered a season-high .433 hitting percentage en route to their second consecutive win.
The Sabercats were virtually unstoppable in the opening set, as they won it by a score of 25-2. Freshman Laura Higgins got in on the action and registered her first career kill for the Blue & Gold, and the Sabercats had a variety of hitters supply the points. MBU forced the Lakers into some influential errors throughout the middle of the set, and Madeline Suderman smacked down the final point to put MBU up 1-0.
Suderman and Co. did not skip a beat in the second set, as they registered early kills to put the second set beyond the Lakers' reach. Jessica Ureke, Alexis Bueltel and Kelsey Johnson had some precise early hitting that propelled MBU out to a 12-5 lead, and from that point on, the capable hands of Gabrielle Carpenter put the finishing touches on the second set. Carpenter's 5 late kills secured the 2-0 MBU advantage and an inevitable match win.
That win came soon enough, and the Sabercats put up 7 aces in the final set. Abigail Jones and Kelsey Johnson found the holes in the Lakers' defense, and the Sabercats were in cruise-control mode for the routine third-set win.
Bueltel led MBU with 8 kills and combined with Suderman and Carpenter for 19 kills and 0 errors on the night.
The Sabercats' next match will be Thursday at Marian. The first serve will be at 7 p.m. in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. The Sabercats have swept all 5 of their previous matches against the Sabres. Catch the details at mbusabercats.com/composite.
