GREENVILLE, S.C. -- After picking up 55 total digs (4.58 digs per set), Katie Bender, a senior libero from Green Bay, Wisconsin, was named as the Student-Athlete of the Week for Division II Volleyball, as was announced last night by the National Christian College Athletic Association.
Bender led the Sabercats to a third-place finish over the weekend at the Spikefest Tournament hosted by Faith Baptist Bible College. MBU posted straight-set wins over Manhattan Christian, Barclay and Faith Baptist but suffered a 3-0 loss at the hard-hitting hands of Kentucky Christian.
Bender registered 9 aces on the weekend and passed a 2.33 serve receive while limiting the opponents to passing a 1.4 serve receive.
Bender begins her second season as the Sabercats' libero and was named as an NCCAA All-Region selection in 2016, as well as an All-Tournament selection at the 2016 NCCAA DII National Championship.
Bender and the Sabercats return to action tonight at the Concordia-Chicago Quad at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
