Watertown, Wis. -- The 2017 Alumni Day on the campus of Maranatha Baptist University was a clear success, as the event united some 300-plus alumni for the beginning of Maranatha's 50th year. As is tradition, the Alumni Games were held on campus, and the day yielded exciting competition.
Women's Volleyball started the action-packed day at 10 a.m., and the Sabercats faced an impressive lineup of alumnae. Recent NCCAA All-Americans Alison (Renz) Crum, Pamela (Borchardt) Fiocchi, Torey (DeLozier) Rosen, and Lauren Schulz highlighted the squad. The match was tightly-contested, and it was the Alumnae that came out on top with a 2-1 win in the three-set match.
Next up was an early-afternoon Women's Soccer clash, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Harmony (Lorch) Conley opened the scoring for the alumnae with a well-placed shot from the left side of the penalty area. Conley's attempt flew towards the far corner, caromed off the post, and bounced into the side netting.
Just two minutes later, however, Leah Ng made the most of her breakaway opportunity for the Sabercats by slotting a tidy finish into the lower corner beyond a diving Michala (Marino) Steinbach. After that brief exchange of goals, the match remained tied until the final whistle.
Notable members of the Women's Soccer alumnae included NCCAA All-Americans Harmony (Lorch) Conley, Audrey (Risma) Knoedler, Julie Muse, Amanda Walton, and Natascha (Vinz) Wenthold.
The Men's Soccer team evened the odds to conclude the day, as a calm finish from Steven Thompson in the 46th minute was the only goal in 90 minutes of action. Thompson collected a well-placed pass from Calvin Perkins and proceeded to dribble around the Alumni goalkeeper before slotting the ball into the gaping net.
Notable alumni from the Men's Soccer program included recent NCCAA All-America selections Drew DeLozier, Charles Leeds, Nathan Lyle, Taylor Pill, and Wira Wama.
The memorable weekend included a hall of fame induction ceremony Friday night.
