GREENVILLE, S.C. -- After averaging 17 points and notching a career high in a 2-win week last week, Kelsey Johnson has been named Student-Athlete of the Week by the NCCAA.
The sophomore was a key component of a 64-58 win over North Central University and a 68-38 trouncing of Illinois Tech, as the Sabercats kick-started their second semester of competition.
Johnson, a sophomore from Stephenson, Michigan, averaged 17 points per game while shooting 44 percent from the floor. She recorded a career-high 22 points along with 9 rebounds to lead the Sabercats to the win over IIT. Against NCU, Johnson finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists.
So far this season, Johnson has recorded double-digit points in every game except one and has logged 4 double-doubles. Johnson leads MBU in rebounds per game (9.1) and is second on the team in points per game (14).
Johnson and the Sabercats will be back in action Saturday when they host Bethany Lutheran College for a 1 p.m. tip.
