OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- The Association of Division III Independents announced this morning that Micah Shepard has been named as the Student-Athlete of the Week for the events of Nov. 27-Dec. 2.
Shepard, a senior from Little Rock, Arkansas, averaged over 20 points per game for the week as the Sabercats went 3-0 while posting 2 NCCAA regional wins.
Shepard put up a career-high 38 points against NCCAA powerhouse North Central University last Thursday. Shepard's career-high performance lifted the Sabercats to a thrilling 105-97 overtime win that night against the Rams. In the 5-minute overtime period, Shepard calmly knocked down 6 free throws out of 6 attempts.
Despite only registering 5 points against Dayspring Bible last Tuesday, Shepard responded with the career night on Thursday and an 18-point outing at Faith Baptist on Saturday to cap off the week.
Besides that, Shepard recorded 16 rebounds (5.3 per game) on the week and shot 54.3 from the floor, 53.3 percent from downtown, and 83.3 percent from the charity stripe.
In the 3-game stretch, the Sabercats topped Dayspring Bible (103-51), North Central (105-97 - OT), and Faith Baptist (89-44).
Shepard and the Sabercats will resume play Thursday night when they travel to Dominican University for a 7 p.m. tip.
